EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. – (November 10, 2022) The City of El Segundo was named “Most Business-Friendly City in LA County” by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) at the 27th annual Eddy Awards held at SoFi Stadium on November 9, 2022. El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles, along with Councilmembers Carol Pirsztuk and Lance Giroux, accepted the award on behalf of the City.

The Eddy Awards recognize leadership in economic development in both business and government throughout Los Angeles County.  Each year, a panel evaluates nominations submitted by the cities in LA County to recognize those cities which are doing the most to encourage job creation, facilitate ease of doing business, and cut through red tape.

“The City of El Segundo is honored to receive the 2022 Most Business-Friendly City award. El Segundo is the most important five square miles economically in Southern California with our high concentration of large, global, market-leading corporations, thriving cluster of rapidly growing startups, and a diverse mix of industries, including aerospace and defense, biomed, food production, media, technology, and more,” shared Mayor Boyles. “This year, we welcomed Topgolf; L'Oreal’s West Coast U.S. headquarters; tech industry giant Belkin International; and Beyond Meat completed its new, state-of-the-art campus.”

"We have seen success with our business attraction, retention, and expansion efforts, which helped to attract many new companies, most recently the Los Angeles Chargers,” shared Councilmember Carol Pirsztuk. “With more than 10 million square feet of commercial office space, we continue to be one of the most sought-after commercial real estate markets in Southern California,"

"City staff works closely with businesses on projects, from initial inquiry through certificate of occupancy," added Councilmember Lance Giroux.  "We thank the City's hardworking employees for their commitment to making El Segundo a thriving community for businesses and residents."

El Segundo’s business environment offers modern creative office developments, low tax rates, a highly-skilled workforce, and a range of corporate office and manufacturing space in a well-planned business community.

El Segundo, known as the city Where Big Ideas Take Off, sets a one-day goal for turn-around on business licenses, expedites permits, and offers after-hour inspections. El Segundo is home to 17,000 residents, many Fortune 500 companies, and maintains some of the lowest taxes in L.A. County.  City staff works closely with businesses on projects, from initial inquiry through certificate of occupancy.

In 2022 El Segundo celebrated 105 years of innovation, leadership, and growth, and the City continues to focus on supporting a diverse and vibrant economy and setting the standard as the most business-friendly city in Los Angeles.

The 2022 finalists with a population of 60,000 and under were El Segundo, Beverly Hills, Lomita, Monrovia and Vernon. El Segundo was previously honored in 2015 and 2006. For the first time, there were two winners for cities with a population of more than 60,000 - City of Gardena and City of Santa Clarita. The 2022 Eddy awards also honored Mr. Stan Kroenke, Chairman & CEO of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, CEO & Owner, Los Angeles Rams, and Dr. Kathryn Jeffery, Superintendent & President, of Santa Monica College.
