El Segundo Celebrates the State of the City

El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles presents to more than 600 registered attendees at the annual City of El Segundo State of the City presented by the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce.

EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. (September 20, 2022) – Fortune 500 companies, political leaders, local businesses, and the El Segundo community gathered last week for El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles’ third State of the City address and first post-pandemic. Mayor Boyles shared the City's accomplishments and presented fiscally focused strategic goals to more than 600 registered guests, the highest attendance ever for this event. 

Mayor Boyles kicked off the event by acknowledging the resilience and positive and significant changes the City has been through in the past 18 months, including region-leading COVID-19 pandemic response, Hyperion incident management, formation of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, as well as the opening of the $50 million Topgolf location and groundbreaking for the Los Angeles Chargers headquarters and training facility. 

“El Segundo is the most important five square miles economically, in Southern California. We are home to several Fortune 500 companies, more than 100 venture-backed firms, and home and headquarters to five major sports franchises. Our business-friendly environment, location, and City services are the catalyst for entrepreneurship and creativity,” shares Mayor Boyles. “City Council and I look forward to continuing El Segundo’s legacy as the city where big ideas take off.”

Mayor Boyles highlighted the City’s five strategic goals, including enhancing customer service, diversity, equity, inclusion, and communication; supporting community safety and preparedness; promoting a quality workforce through teamwork and organizational efficiencies; developing and maintaining quality infrastructure and technology; and championing economic development and fiscal sustainability. "El Segundo City Council is moving forward with our top priorities while being fiscally responsible and planning for the future," noted Boyles. 

The 2022 State of the City brought to life the City's economic development growth trajectory and fiscal sustainability through strategically focused leadership. Mayor Boyles spoke about cutting-edge aerospace and space innovations in El Segundo, including Space Systems Command at Los Angeles Air Force Base, which oversees the Department of Defense's $11 billion space acquisition budget and the City saw more than $917 million in VC investment in 2021. New developments and business projects were also presented, including Pacific Coast Commons and Beach Cities Media Campus. 

Mayor Boyles acknowledged the City's committees, commissions, and boards, new leadership in the City and department accomplishments, as well as key initiatives for long-term fiscal stability and upcoming Public Works projects including The Plunge renovation and the Downtown Specific Plan Update.

Presented by the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce, the event was held on Wednesday, September 14th, at PCT Towers in El Segundo. The event opened with local resident and comedian Kelsey Chittick sharing her story and experiences as an El Segundo community member with a twist of humor.
